We’re so excited to share your ideas at Detroit Month of Design - Waste Reimagined: Design and Circularity | Part 2!

If selected, we will contact you with next steps.

Opportunity:

  • 3 candidates will be selected to have their concept fabricated by Design Declassified during Detroit Month of Design and showcased at Part 2 on September 24, 2025.

  • By submitting, you confirm the work is your original design and grant Design Declassified permission to fabricate and showcase your design.

  • You keep ownership of your design.

  • We may explore licensing opportunities if interested.

Timeline:

  • Submissions open: 11:15am 09/03 

  • Submission close: 11:59pm 09/04

  • Notification: Within 2 days of submitting  

  • Confirmation required: Within 24 hours of notification 

  • CAD file due: Within 1 week of video call   

  • Part 2 Showcase: September 24, 2025 from 5-7pm

Design Constraints & Judging Criteria:

  • Use one (1) 36" x 36" Declassified Panel (color TBD, chosen by finalist).

  • Thickness options: 0.375", 0.5", 0.75".  

  • No other materials (metal, wood, etc.).  

  • Fastening allowed: screws, bolts, pocket screws, CAM/Dowel, slot joints.  

  • Must be CNC routable.

  • Judging will consider: effective material use, creativity, feasibility, manufacturability. 

     

Design Ideas:

  • Small furniture: stools, end tables, shelves.

  • Home goods: trays, plant stands, coasters.

  • Art/Sculpture: Sculptures or interactive games (e.g., Eames House of Cards)

Submission Rules:

  • Submit a hand sketch (pen, pencil, markers on paper).  

  • No CAD files or digital renderings at this stage.  

  • Provide a clear scan or photo of your sketch (make it your "hero shot").  

  • Upload only one product using the form. 

  • Collections based design is acceptable (e.g., a collection of trays that stack and nest).

If Selected:

  • You’ll hear from us within 2 days of the submission closing. 

  • You must confirm within 24 hours of notification, or your spot will be offered to another candidate.  

  • Must be available for a video call to connect and share further steps.

  • Provide a 3D CAD file within 1 week of the video call.

  • Design Declassified will fabricate and showcase your work on September 24 (Waste Reimagined: Part 2).
